At the time we talked about it a lot in women's magazines, and it had aroused my curiosity.

With my mane, I am often asked which hairbrush I use. In reality, I use 2. There is the Tangle Teezer that I use to untangle my wet hair in the shower, and whose compact version does not leave my pool bag.

Each brush is handcrafted and consists of a pneumatic rubber cushion and 6 rows of natural boar bristles, as well as nylon for some models.

How to brush your hair?

The question may seem silly to you, and yet! Lots of people do this a bit haphazardly.
We always start with the lower part of the hair, especially if it is long, in order to untangle it gently (otherwise we aggravate the knots). Then we go back up.
Then we ideally lean forward and brush from the scalp and down slowly but surely along with the hair. This activates the microcirculation of the scalp and redistributes the sebum naturally present at the hairline for a natural treatment (no, it's not dirty).
Then we end up brushing a little more vigorously to eliminate dandruff (even if they are invisible: everyone has them!).

How to choose your Mason Pearson brush?

My hair is fine

If you have fine hair like me, choose a brush 100% boar bristles (Pure Boar Bristle).
If your hair is very fragile, brittle, you tend to lose it, or you have a sensitive scalp, opt for a “ Sensitive  ” version  (this is the one I have) with ultra-soft boar bristles.

My hair is normal or a little thick

Instead, opt for a mixed brush made of wild boar bristle and nylon (Pure Bristle & Nylon), which will help to better disentangle them. It's the one my sister has, she's super happy about it.

My hair is very thick/difficult to untangle

Choose a nylon brush. But if you tend to lose your hair or it is fragile, there is a "Gentle" version.

My hair is curly

If you have beautiful curly hair, the goal is to untangle it while maintaining movement. you will, therefore, need a wide-tooth comb ( Rake Comb C7 ).

As for the size, it's up to you. I tend to recommend Large format brushes with thick hair. For my part, even if I have very long hair, the "Handy" size suits me perfectly. It fits easily in the toiletry bag while it was wide enough to do its job perfectly.

I find that my brush is perfect for children, adults with short, medium, or long hair.

How to take care and clean your Mason Pearson hairbrush?

To make your brush last as long as possible, you need to take minimum care. Nothing insurmountable, I am not the most conscientious and my brush has not moved an iota.
Here are the basic tips:

• Do not use it for other applications (not on animals for example…)
• Never leave it for a long time in direct sunlight or in high heat, this can alter its cushion
• So we also avoid using a hairdryer for a long time on the brush or exposed to excessive heat (neither good for the cushion, nor for the bristles which can become brittle)
• Do not use hair products based on oils or solvents with the brush, this can damage the rubber

Now, some tips for cleaning your Mason Pearson brush. You have to try to think of cleaning it from time to time, I do not impose a particular rhythm. I just do it when I see that dust or hair is starting to build up too much.

• Dead hair is removed with a comb, passing in all directions
• We use the cleaning brush provided to remove the dust accumulated at the foot of the bristles and on the rubber cushion.
• We wash the brush at a frequency that suits you: we monitor whether a lot of sebum accumulates or not ... it depends on each person. To do this, after dry cleaning, we pass the cleaning brush (not the hairbrush eh, the non-to-want brush!) In lukewarm soapy water (never hot!). Then gently brush the cushion while still holding the hairbrush so that its head with its hole points downward.
  The cleaning brush is then rinsed under water and passed over the hairbrush. Then shake the brush to remove excess water and let the cushion brush dry down to room temperature (too much heat can make the bristles brittle).
  Never use a towel to dry the bristles. When wet, they become more fragile.
